Worship has slowly become a common, familiar and mundane activity for many individuals and families.   For some, church attendance has become a thing of the past because of boredom.

Is God boring?  Well, think about it.  He has quite a bit going on in the creation and among men.  How could He possibly be boring?  Right?  His handiwork is full of beauty and splendor while His interactions with us are simply amazing, moving, and utterly beyond human reasoning.  Could the problem be God’s subjects, the people who arrive every week for worship or ministry initiatives?

It may be that we cannot see God in what we’re doing while in church.  And without guidance and knowledge of scriptural worship, one can lose focus and miss the whole objective of church attendance.  If one doesn’t see the glory of God in what they’re doing in church, worship can easily be overlooked or neglected.

It may be that we’re too busy with our own agenda, too busy doing our own thing and overly obsessed with the things of life that we pay little attention to source and giver of life.  We may be bored because our lives are all about us, our business or busyness, our priorities etc.

We may not be ‘followers of Christ’ and settle for a belief or two that fulfill the need to be religious or fill a void within.  Remember, many people were told to go to church without a clear understanding of Christ’s call to follow Him through denial of self and personal sacrifice.

Sometimes, quite frankly, there can be too many distractions for worship.  Walking, talking, cellphones, texting, babies crying, anything really, may easily gain our attention and focus.  That is when our discipline checks in to help us with closing our eyes and staying focus upon God and His goodness.

And let’s face it!  Sometimes people are already tired and overcome by fatigue.  A low-keyed worship beyond the usual modern-day attention span will easily cause nodding.

Whatever the case, one has to find incentive and inspiration to refuse to be bored in church or allow worship to be about who is there or how many are there.   Don’t preoccupy your mind about the form of worship or your familiarity of it and so determine how well you worship.  Don’t be overcome by comforts, conditions or circumstance while in the sanctuary. The people, their race, culture, clothing attire, class, etc. should not become the focus while in the House of Prayer.  This time and this place is all about God!  Talking with Him and interacting with Him is the priority.  One cannot become bored with worship when it is all about Him and seeing Him.

Intend to be with God in worship.  Nothing and nobody will can keep you from interacting with God to worship Him.  And, it can be done with a sense of power when the focus is outside of ourselves and on what God through His Holy Spirit is doing.

It is a choice that one has to make to “Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!  Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:   Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”  Psalm 103:1-5 NKJV
